ASPCA lists this plant as toxic to cats and dogs. A general advisory, not veterinary advice: keep it out of reach. Check pet guidance

Golden pothos is an easy trailing vine with green leaves and uneven yellow markings. It suits shelves and hanging pots.

At a glance

  • Plant: Golden pothos (Epipremnum)
  • Light: Low to bright indirect light. Keep it out of hot midday sun.
  • Water: Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. Soak the mix, then let excess water drain away fully.
  • Look: Green leaves with uneven yellow markings. Vines can trail 6 to 10 feet indoors.
  • Care level: Easy. Good on shelves and in hanging pots.
  • Temperature and humidity: 65 to 85 degrees F, away from cold drafts. Average home humidity is fine.
  • Grooming: Trim long stems to keep growth near the pot. Give the vines a pole if you want them to climb. Turn the pot every few weeks and wipe dusty leaves with a damp cloth.
  • Yellow leaves: Check first for soil that stays wet. An occasional older leaf can yellow naturally.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots circle the pot or reach through the drainage holes, usually every year or two. Move up one pot size.
  • Propagation: Cut below a node and keep at least one leaf on the cutting. Root it in water or damp potting mix in bright, indirect light. Pot it once roots are a few inches long.
  • Shipping: Free shipping in the US.
