Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata)
Ficus lyrata
Big, violin-shaped leaves on an upright stem that grows into a tree.
About This Botanical
The fiddle leaf fig has large, glossy, violin-shaped leaves on a single upright stem. Small plants grow into a tall indoor tree over a few years, and the leaves get bigger as the plant matures.
Fiddle leaf figs react to change, and shipping is a big one. It's normal for a new plant to drop a few leaves in the first 2 to 3 weeks. Put it in its permanent spot near a bright window, keep it away from heaters, cold drafts and doors, and don't add extra water to make up for the dropped leaves. That last one is how most people turn a little leaf drop into root rot.
After that it's mostly about consistency. Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry, give it a quarter turn every few weeks so it grows straight, and wipe dust off the leaves so they can use the light.
Ships in the grower's plastic nursery pot.

“Why is my fiddle leaf fig dropping leaves?”
Most often it's a change in light or temperature, like a move, a cold draft or a heater. Overwatering is the other common cause. Pick a bright spot, leave it there, and only water when the top 2 inches are dry.
