Air Plant (Tillandsia ionantha)
Tillandsia ionantha
A small spiky rosette that lives without soil and blushes red before it blooms.
About This Botanical
Tillandsia ionantha is a small air plant, about 2 to 3 inches across, with stiff silvery-green leaves in a tight rosette. It doesn't grow in soil. It takes in water through its leaves, so you can set it on a shelf, in a shell, or in the mini terra cotta pot that comes with the potted options. Before it blooms, the inner leaves turn red and a small purple flower pushes out from the center.
Care is a soak every week or two. Leave it in room-temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes, shake it off, and let it dry upside down. Most air plant losses come from water trapped in the center, so make sure it's dry within a few hours. Give it bright indirect light.
Choose a single plant, a 3-pack or a 5-pack, or one or three plants set in mini terra cotta pots.

“How do I water an air plant?”
Soak it in room-temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes every week or two. Shake it gently and set it upside down so it dries within about 4 hours. Water left sitting in the center can rot it.
