Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus radicans)
Aeschynanthus radicans
Glossy trailing vines with red tube-shaped flowers that pop out of dark buds.
About This Botanical
The lipstick plant gets its name from its flowers. Red tubular blooms push out of dark maroon buds at the ends of the stems, a lot like lipstick coming out of a tube. Between flowers it's a full, trailing plant with small, thick, glossy leaves.
In nature it grows on trees, so it likes airy soil that drains fast and doesn't want to stay wet. Water when the top inch dries, give it bright indirect light, and expect the most flowers in spring and summer. If it gets leggy, trim the long stems after it blooms and it will branch out fuller.
Ships in the grower's plastic nursery pot.

Bright indirect light is the biggest factor. It blooms most in spring and summer. A slightly snug pot and a cooler, drier rest in winter also help.
