About This Botanical

Twenty Dracaena draco seeds. The dragon tree, native to the Canary Islands, grows a thick trunk topped with rosettes of stiff, sword-shaped leaves, and it is one of the most striking slow-growing trees you can raise from seed.

Common questions

How do you grow a dragon tree from seed?
Gently nick the hard seed coat, soak the seeds for 24 hours, then sow in moist potting mix and cover with plastic to hold warmth and humidity. Keep the mix moist but not soggy, near 80°F, in bright light. Once they sprout, uncover them for a few hours a day to get the seedlings used to room air.

How do you care for a dragon tree?
Lots of light, including direct sun, a fast-draining mix, and watering only when the soil has mostly dried. Mature dragon trees handle dry air well and grow slowly.
